Auntie Chronicles, vol. 3: July 4

Dear Baby Fetus… Oh wait, we found out you were a boy!!

… Nathaniel…

Happy Independence Day! Today commemorates the anniversary of our nations birth. Well - it’s suppose to anyway. It should represent a sense of freedom, celebration and peace. But these days, there isn’t a whole lot of freedom going on, no one is in the mood for celebration, and it’s evoking the very opposite of peace. Baby boy… this country is going through some major changes, and I think it’s important that I make note… because God willing, the drama will be over once you are old enough to understand.

We are in a recession — though none of the people that matter (e.g. the government) are prepared to quite admit it. A recession is “a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months…” — in other words, the wallet of our nation is a little… sparse. It’s causing for an elevated level of frustration, tension, and and anxiety. Major store chains like Starbuck’s and Gap, Inc. are closing stores nationwide, even General Motors, one of the largest (if not the largest) companies in the world, is about to file bankruptcy!! This may make absolutely no sense to you today, or even years from now, but one day, you will understand how heavy the impact is.

On top of the recession, this is an election year and the campaigning is in full force. Barack Obama is representing the democratic side as the first African-American to get the democratic nomination. While it personally makes me thrilled to be a part of the movement for Barack’s “change,” it disheartens me how disapproving much of society is to his potential presidential candidacy. It many ways beyond this, our nation is still not free.

I tell you this not to sadden you, but to help you to have perspective when you bless this earth with your presence. Aspire to make a difference in this world, and to stay on top of a positive movement. Inspire others, and don’t let negative conditions, spirits or people ever make you lose hope.

Love,

Auntie Lex.

Don’t be sad Auntie…Mommmy said BO is gonna GO all the way to the White House. She was telling me that sometimes people try avoid this change thingy you are talking about but God (not sure who that is yet but He sounds like Superman!) has a bigger plan and envokes (just learned that word!) change whether people want it or not. Like me for example. I like floating around in here in mommy’s belly. But she went to this doctor person (who I’ve decided I do not like because he has this machine thingy that can see through skin and I think he was trying to see my goodies to find out what if I’m a boy or a girl. I gave in to the irritating poking and decided to show them my butt instead not realizing girls don’t have the thing I got between my legs. The secret is out!) Any way Mr Doctor Man told mommy that I’m probably coming 5 days earlier than he originally thought. That’s 5 days less that I got up in here! What if I don’t wanna come out? Guess that doesn’t matter because of this change thing, huh? Oh well…

But regarding this recession thing, I may have an idea to help with that. You said America’s wallet is small right? Why don’t they just get a bigger one?

Baby out!
